Wellbeing and mental health

For the last two years, Bennett have been NSW Tier 2 partners of Mates in Construction. Notwithstanding the impact on broader society, mental health issues and suicide are particularly prevalent in the construction industry. Mates is an initiative developed for the industry by the industry which is having a real impact.

Inclusion and diversity are integral to our culture, our values and the way we do business.

We are a third-generation owned company, and we strongly advocate for progress and change in the industry.

Bennett believes in equal opportunities, and we have robust training and development program pathways to help our people build a successful construction career.

Our Goals
  • Indigenous Employment Parity
  • Empower and Support Women In Construction
  • Supporting our future leaders through offering an innovative Cadetship Pathways Program.
Work-life balance

Looking after our employees

Australians work more hours than most people in other developed OECD countries—with less time to look after themselves. Working long hours can impact your health, increase stress and cut into leisure activities.

The construction industry can present its people with long hours when projects are remote and require travel and sometimes fly-in-fly-out arrangements.

Bennett monitors staff to ensure that they are not getting stressed from long hours. We help our employees by:

encouraging good time management

setting boundaries on work time and set aside time for other activities

making sure that the workplace helps people to enjoy their work

make sure our staff focus on their health

make sure people take regular leave

Modern slavery

Ensuring an ethical supply chain

Bennett has been identifying and managing our modern slavery risks since 2020. We have consulted with our employees and procurement teams, subcontractors and suppliers to identify risks.

We typically focus on overseas suppliers where there is a high labour component, such as labour hire, raw materials, logistics and chemical suppliers. Our main suppliers are China and Europe.

We have monitored the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic and assessed how it may alter modern slavery risk in our supply chain. Changes in modern slavery risk during the pandemic have mostly resulted from changes in demand for products and services.
